    report

As part of our efforts for European-Asian strategic collaboration within the GCOE program we organized the Summer School 2009 together with the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Italy, the Korean Institute of Technology.

According to the topic of the Summer School "Fundamentals of Biorobotics", speakers from seven different universities and a company presented talks. The participating students had the chance to show their own works and ideas in poster and group work sessions. In the course of the activities, the participants became engaged in active discussions about RT (Robot Technology) which is going to be a social infrastructure.

The Summer School contributed in the following ways to the GCOE program:
    (1) Research and collaboration fundament: GCOE promotes the creation of a fundamental scientific basis for Robot Technology researchers from all over the world. In this sense we brought young and talented scientists from Europe and Asia together in an international cooperation effort.

    (2) Education: To spur breakthrough scientific progress especially in the young generation, as propagated by the GCOE program, the young researchers developed their own ideas for future research endeavors under the guidance of more experienced scientists. For the individual students this could become a basis for future international research career perspectives.

    (3) Research: The intensive discussions between the participants themselves and the tutoring scientists probed the clear systematization of Robot Technology, contributing to the creation of "M-Robotics" as propagated through the GCOE program.
